Means-tested Student Maintenance Grants are available to qualifying learners. The administration of these grants was handled by your local Vocational Education Committee up to 2011. Please note, however, that VECs no longer assess new applications for Third Level/PLC Grants.
A new ONLINE ONLY grant applications system was introduced in 2012. All new applications have to be made online to a single awarding authority, Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), through www.studentfinance.ie.
New learners and learners changing course will make an application online to SUSI through www.studentfinance.ie. The online application facility was available from June 12th this year. The Department of Education and Skills Grant Scheme 2012 was also published at that time. Remember, it is not necessary to have received an offer of a college place or to be enrolled in LCFE in order to apply online. So, apply as early as possible.
Remember, if you are changing course or progressing to a new course you will also need to apply to SUSI. e.g. LCFE learners progressing from a FETAC Level 5 programme to a Level 6 programme.
We also regularly post updates through our social media channels. To ensure you don't miss any updates, make sure to 'Like Us' on Facebook here or, follow us on Twitter here . LCFE also has a Grants Officer, who will advise applicants/recipients, as necessary during the academic year. E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Only learners who are currently in receipt of a grant from their local VEC, and who are progressing to the next year of the same course, will continue to be assessed and paid by that VEC.
