Course Overview
This newly-structured FETAC programme is suitable for individuals who wish to further investigate and gain a better understanding, knowledge and appreciation of Art, Craft and Design. The programme offers a foundation in the area of Art and Design, and aims to enable the Learner to develop an understanding of the principles and techniques of Drawing, Painting and Craft. Learners will have an opportunity to use a variety of media.
Entry Requirements
- Holders of FETAC Level 4 Awards
- Mature learners (over 23) or persons displaying ability in
this area.
- Learners who do not have the subject requirements or the
level of Leaving Certificate points needed to obtain a place in
third level colleges, can substitute their Leaving Certificate
results with CAO points from their FETAC award. LIT and
most other Art Colleges throughout the country will accept
three FETAC distinctions from a full FETAC Award in lieu
of Leaving Certificate results. NCAD will accept five FETAC
distinctions from a full FETAC award.

Progression/Employment Opportunities

Participants may progress to the Advanced Certifi cate in Art
at LCFE.

Award holders may seek apprenticeships in Craft Studios, or
continue further studies through the Links scheme or CAO.

Many learners with this qualification take up places in
3rd Level Colleges such as LIT and other Institutes of
Technology.
Fees
As an NDP-funded programme, there are no tuition fees. Learners, however, are liable for registration and examination fees. Additionally, learners are expected to supply prescribed class and study materials.
Means-tested maintenance grants are available.
