Course Overview

This programme (new FETAC Award) is the progression from the Certifi cate in Early Childhood Care & Education, Level 5. It is placed at Diploma level on the National Framework of Qualifications.  This programme will give the skills and knowledge for learners the opportunity to progress to managerial positions in a Childcare setting.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have completed a FETAC Level 5 award in Childcare [DCHSC] or equivalent. 

  • Mature applicants (over 23) may be exempt from the above academic requirements - but childcare experience is essential. 

  • Places will be allocated on the basis of a personal interview/advisory session.

Progression/Employment Opportunities

  • Award holders are qualified to work in a managerial capacity in a variety of childcare settings. 

  • Progression: Award holders may apply for advanced entry to Year 2 of the BA (Early Childhood Studies) at UCC, or the BA (Early Childhood Care - Education) at IT Tralee.

  • Institutes of Technology, Universities and other Colleges around the country may be offering opportunities for further studies. Please check with the individual Admissions Offices of any institution you are interested in attending or access:

Fees

As an NDP-funded programme, there are no tuition fees. Learners, however, are liable for registration and examination fees. Additionally, learners are expected to supply prescribed class and study materials.

Means-tested maintenance grants are available.
