Course Overview

This comprehensive programme aims to provide learners with both the knowledge and practical skills necessary to pursue a career in laboratory science. In recent years, there is consistent demand for people to work in the sector. The programme is also targetting those interested in acquiring a Science Award for other career pathways.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have passed the Leaving Certificate, LCA or equivalent.

  • Holders of a FETAC Level 4 award are also eligible to apply.

  • Mature learners (over 23) may be exempt from the above academic requirements.

Places are limited and will be allocated on the basis of a personal interview.

Progression/Employment Opportunities

  • Successful learners may pursue science certificate or degree courses in a variety of Third-Level Colleges in Ireland or in the UK. Alternatively, learners may seek employment in companies and projects requiring an aptitude for science. 

  • Award holders will have both the knowledge and practical skills necessary to access Science-based programmes.

  • Institutes of Technology and other Colleges around the country may be offering opportunities for further studies at Level 6, 7 or 8. Please check with the individual Admissions Offices of any 3rd Level institution you wish to attend or access:

Fees

As an NDP-funded programme, there are no tuition fees. Learners, however, are liable for registration and examination fees. Additionally, learners are expected to supply prescribed class and study materials.

Means-tested maintenance grants are available.
