Course Overview

This programme is aimed at those who wish to work as paramedics, either in the Fire or Ambulance services. Learners who successfully complete this course will gain essential knowledge and skills in areas relevant to these careers and it is envisaged that this programme will improve chances of recruitment to either the Fire or Ambulance Service. This programme is also suitable for adults seeking qualifications to return to the workforce as Nursing Studies is part of this programme.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have passed the Leaving Certificate or LCA.

  • Holders of a FETAC Level 4 award are also eligible to apply.

  • Mature learners (over 23) may be exempt from the above academic requirements.

  • Fire Warden

  • Hazardous Chemicals

  • Emergency First Responder (EFR) incorporating Defibrillator Training - This is the PHECC standard for Emergency First Response and AED use.
  • Emergency Medical Technician - This is the PHECC standard for the National Qualification Emergency Medical Technician (NQEMT). This course is accredited by the Emergency Services Training Institute.

Progression/Employment Opportunities

  • The programme design is very vocational in nature. Those who succeed in obtaining all certification will have a wide choice of job opportunities in the Emergency Services.

     

 

Fees

As an NDP-funded programme, there are no tuition fees. Learners, however, are liable for registration and examination fees. Additionally, learners are expected to supply prescribed class and study materials.

There are extra fees payable to the optional certification bodies.

Means-tested maintenance grants are available.
