Course Overview

This comprehensive course aims to provide learners with both a broad understanding of Environmental Science and practical skills necessary to pursue a career in laboratory science. In recent years environmental awareness and waste management has increased dramatically and there is consistent demand for people to work in this sector. This programme is also targeting those interested in acquiring a Science award for other career pathways.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have passed the Leaving Certificate, LCA or equivalent.
  • Holders of a FETAC Level 4 Award are eligible to apply
  • Mature learners (over 23) may be exempt from the above academic requirements.
     

Places on the course are limited and will be allocated on the basis of a personal interview.

Progression/Employment Opportunities

  • Successful learners may pursue science certificate or degree programmes in a variety of Third Level Colleges in Ireland or in the U.K. Alternatively learners may seek employment in companies and projects requiring an aptitude for science.
  • Award holders will have both the knowledge and practical skills necessary to access science based programmes.
  • Institutes of Technology and other Colleges around the country may be offering opportunities for further studies.

Fees

As an NDP-funded programme, there are no tuition fees. Learners, however, are liable for registration and examination fees. Additionally, learners are expected to supply prescribed class and study materials.

Means-tested Maintenance Grants are available.
