Course Overview

This programme leads to a qualification in Pre-Nursing. It is designed to give a solid foundation in the theory and practice of Health Care and Nursing Care for those who intend entering the nursing, paramedical or community care service.

Entry Requirements

• Applicants must have passed the Leaving Certificate with grades comparable to those required by the Irish and/or British Universities for entry to Nursing Studies. Subjects passed must include a Science subject e.g. (Biology, Physics, Chemistry).

• Mature learners (over 23) may be exempt from the above academic requirements.

Progression/Employment Opportunities

• Holders of this award may be in a position to apply to UL, UCC, NUI Galway and the Institutes of Technology for entry to the first year of Nursing Studies Degree Programmes (through the FETAC Higher Education Links Scheme).

Fees

As an NDP-funded programme, there are no tuition fees. Learners, however, are liable for registration and examination fees. Additionally, learners are expected to supply prescribed class and study materials.

Means-tested maintenance grants are available.
