This course would be of interest to individuals who are interested in food, what different food groups can do in your body and how nutrition can affect your health and lifestyle.

Course Description

  • Introduction to nutrition, what are the different food groups, what is a balanced diet.  Macro and micro nutrients
  • Protein-what it is made from.  What does protein do in the body?  What are different types of protein?  Vegetable protein versus animal protein.  What is a complete protein?
  • Carbohydrates-what are they used for in the body?  Simple v complex carbohydrates.  What carbohydrates made from?
  • Fat – what is fat made from?  What does it do in the body?  What are the different types of fats?  “Good” versus “bad” fats
  • Dairy products – what de we need dairy products for?  What types of dairy products are there?  Do you need dairy products to protect your body against aging?
  • Vitamins and Minerals – what are these?  What are the main vitamins and minerals?  What do they do?  How do they work in the body?
  • Superfoods – what are these?  Why are they superfoods?  What do they do in the body?  Examples of such foods.
  • Water – why de we need to drink water?  What does water do in the body?  Is it ok to obtain water from tea, coffees, fizzy drinks, juices etc?  Is filtered water better than tap water?
  • Review on nutrition and diets for different groups such as babies, teenagers, adults, pregnant women etc.
