LCFE Proud to Support 2012 Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival
23/03/2012
The 2012 Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival takes place from Monday, March 26th to Sunday, April 1st. It is organised by the Limerick City of Learning Steering Group, in collaboration with Limerick Communications Office, Limerick County Council and County Limerick VEC. LCFE, as a City of Limerick VEC centre, is delighted to be involved again this year in the festival. As part of the week, CLVEC staff and learners are organising, or playing a role, in a significant number of the over 150 events that will take place. There is something for everyone interested in lifelong learning, of any age, right across Limerick City and County.

The week-long festival will promote and celebrate learning in all its forms, showcasing the wide range of learning events happening throughout Limerick city and county for all age groups. The activities taking place range from laughter yoga and drumming workshops to boat-building events, radio broadcasting training and healthy cooking on a budget.
LCFE will be hosting four exciting free workshop events across the week. At Monday's 'Present Your Own Radio Show' workshop, participants will learn how to prepare, present, edit, upload and share their podcast radio show to the world. On Tuesday, 'Upcycling' will be a workshop of transforming papers into something valuable. Participants with a creative curiosity are sure to enjoy. Wednesday's 'Knitting and Crochet Skills Workshop' is suitable for anyone who wishes to learn the skills of hand-knitting and crochet, enabling them to create accessories, such as flower brooches, necklaces, bracelets and baby clothes. And finally on Friday, the 'Film Edit and Share:Simple Steps' workshop is suitable for everybody interested in video and camera exploring how to shoot, edit and share video online.

The festival will be officially opened on Monday, March 26th by RTÉ 2FM DJ Ruth Scott at the newly refurbished Limerick City Gallery of Art with a celebration of festival highlights. Some festival events will run over a number of days, giving participants the opportunity to find a suitable date to fit their schedule. Festival Co-ordinator, Yvonne Lane, said the 2012 programme offers something for everyone. “It doesn’t matter what stage of life you are at, you can learn something new at the Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival,” she said. “There are a host of wonderful learning events including demonstrations, tours, plays, performances, workshops, information sessions and opportunities to try out a new skill. Learning is promoted as fun and all the events across the week will be free.”
