This course is suitable for anyone with or without knowledge of French polishing in furniture and who wish to develop their creative and making skills.

Programme Description
  • Identify all types and grades of sand paper as may be used by hand or machine for the preparation of wood
  • Become competent in the use of all hand tools and machines as may be used in the preparation of wood i.e. disc sander, orbital sander, and universal belt sander
  • Understand the importance of stripping and cleaning in the
    preparation of an antique piece of furniture that may require re-polishing
  • French polish using the different methods, i.e. brush, rubber
  • French polishing is a wood finishing technique that results in a very high gloss surface. French polishing consists of applying many thin coats of shellac dissolved in alcohol using a rubbing pad lubricated with oil
