As part of its ethos, Limerick College of Further Education believes that learners should experience their learning and training in facilities that match those of industry.
Library/Learning Resource Centres
The Library is a central and essential part of the learner’s academic experience. It provides a service that supports teaching, learning and research activities of the LCFE community, including:
• An atmosphere of research & study
• Well-trained, service-oriented staff
• Technology for easy information access
Members of the library can borrow books for a period of 7 days. Membership is free. The learner ID card serves as a library membership card. Resources include computer workstations providing access to the internet, printing and photocopying facilities and wireless internet access. The aim of the library service is to respond to the varying needs of the college community, learners and staff. Every effort is made to provide all titles recommended by the tutors to supplement the courses of study being taught. Learners are assisted in the selection of appropriate additional reading.

All the station’s news, current affairs and music output is presented by learners on the QQI Level 6 Advanced Media Production course. The broadcast media suite consists of two studios: one for programme pre-production & news and the second is an on air studio utilising the RCS Master Control play-out system.
Radio Computing Services, the world’s leading provider of broadcast software to more than 9,000 radio stations and internet stations, supplied and installed the hardware and software that enables LCFE learners to use the latest in radio automation software used by the radio broadcast industry. ‘iMix’ streams 24 hours a day on the web and has its own iPhone App. The radio station is also available via Apps like TuneIn Radio which enable listeners to access over 50,000 radio stations around the globe. It also streams from its own website www.imixradio.ie and utilises social media for much of its content. iMix – LCFE Online Radio carries a mix of live and voice-tracked programme content. It provides specific training and on-air experience to QQI Level 5 and Level 6 media programmes within the College.
The station creates a ‘Learner radio’ environment for learners to communicate with each other and greater enhances a sense of ‘community’ both on and off the LCFE campus. It also disseminates core and extracurricular LCFE information for day programmes, evening programmes and College events. It continues to enhance the delivery of other programmes’ core components such as: communications, business, political studies and ESOL through studio interviews, news items and documentaries.
